As we conclude the winter semester, I am pleased to present this edition of our newsletter, which highlights the remarkable accomplishments of our academic community. 


The achievements documented here—ranging from internationally recognized research and prestigious editorial appointments to impactful events and collaborative initiatives—reflect the continued excellence and dynamism of Paris School of Business.


This issue showcases a wide spectrum of scholarly contributions, including award-winning research, impactful publications in leading journals, editorial leadership, and the publication of insightful articles and book chapters. The continued success of our Matinales series further underscores our commitment to fostering dialogue between academics and professionals around the most pressing societal and technological issues of our time.


We are also proud to highlight the role of our researchers in spearheading the organization of major international conferences—bringing together scholars from around the globe and further enhancing our institution’s visibility and influence on the global academic stage.

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

Best Paper Award

Dr. Yosr Ben Tahar and Dr. Meriam Razgallah

Yosr Ben Tahar and Meriam Razgallah, both Professors of Management, were recognized for their outstanding research at the 9th International Workshop on Entrepreneurship Research (GEM-ACEDE) in A Coruña, held from 19 to 21 September 2024. Their paper, “The Entrepreneurs' Social Identity and Sustainable Orientation: The Key Role of Entrepreneurial Passion”, co-authored with Sufia Mohand Amar, received the Best Paper Award in the thematic area of Entrepreneurship and Institutions, Best Practices, and Social Economy.


Their study examines the impact of entrepreneurial social identity on sustainability orientation and ecological trade-offs. Notably, the findings show that Missionary and Communitarian identities are associated with a stronger commitment to sustainability, with sustainability orientation acting as a bridge between Missionary identity and ecological decision-making. 


The GEM-ACEDE workshop, hosted by the Spanish Entrepreneurship Observatory and ACEDE’s Entrepreneurship Section, is a leading forum for scholars, researchers, and industry professionals. It provides a valuable platform for addressing the evolving challenges of entrepreneurship while encouraging innovation and collaboration.

Dr. Francesco Paolo Appio

The paper by Francesco Paolo Appio, Professor of Innovation Management, titled Digital Transformation and Innovation Management: A Synthesis of Existing Research and an Agenda for Future Studies, has been recognized as one of the Top 5 most cited articles in the Journal of Product Innovation Management (ABS 4) over the past three years, as reported by Crossref.


Co-authored with Antonio Messeni Petruzzelli, Federico Frattini, and Paolo Neirotti, this influential article unveils the complex relationship between digital transformation and innovation management. It introduces a comprehensive framework that organizes existing research into three levels of analysis: macro, meso, and micro. This innovative approach not only deepens our understanding of the field but also highlights promising directions for future research in this rapidly evolving area.

Dr. Benjamin Keddad

Benjamin Keddad, Professor of Economics and Academic Dean of the DBA Program, has been appointed Associate Editor of the Asian Economic Journal (AEJ) (ABS 1).


Published on behalf of the East Asian Economic Association, the Asian Economic Journal aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge among researchers worldwide and offers a unique platform for economists to stay informed about research on East Asian economies.


This editorial role not only strengthens Dr Keddad’s academic standing but also reflects his commitment to shaping and advancing high-impact economic research within the scholarly community..

LES MATINALES

Digital advertising and its carbon footprint: What are the solutions? 

06 February 2025

The 5th PSB Research Office Breakfast Meeting, focused on digital advertising and its environmental impact, sparked rich and thought-provoking discussions. Marc Leprat (Co Founder and President, ViewPay), Arthur Millet (Director general, Alliance Digitale), and Paul-Antoine Strullu (Director EMEA, Scope3) led the conversation, exploring key topics such as: 

  • The carbon footprint of digital advertising and its wider ecological implications
  • Methods and standards for effective measurement to guide meaningful action
  • The role of regulations, best practices, and stakeholder responsibilities
  • Navigating the tension between privacy and sustainability: striking a balance between data protection and digital sobriety
  • The vital role of internet users in building a more responsible digital landscape
  • The impact of generative AI on energy consumption 

Dr. Christelle Aubert Hassouni provided invaluable scientific insights during this session, which was moderated by Dr. Demba Ousmane DIOUF - both Professors of Marketing at PSB.


The discussion fostered a dynamic space for professionals and researchers to exchange ideas and promote forward-thinking solutions for a more sustainable digital future.

Ecosystem of Women Entrepreneurship

27 March 2025

At the Matinale on 27 March, we welcomed practitioners, researchers, professors, and students for an inspiring debate on female entrepreneurship, focusing on support both before and after business creation.


The event began with a compelling overview of the French ecosystem, followed by two dynamic roundtables in which experts and field practitioners shared insights into the key enablers, challenges, and opportunities for supporting women entrepreneurs.


Co-organized by PSB and the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Lab Chair at the University of Montpellier, the event was led by Karim Messeghem, Dr. Wissal Ben Arfi (Head of the Marketing Department), and Madjid Yahiaoui (Professor of Entrepreneurship at PSB). Supported by PSB Research Office, the session reflects the School’s commitment to fostering initiatives that connect education, research, and entrepreneurship in France.

Meet-the-editor Workshop

14-15 January 2025

Professor Giampaolo Viglia, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Psychology & Marketing (ABS 3*), was the keynote speaker at the Meet-the-Editor Workshop, organized by Dr. Wissal Ben Arfi, Head of the Marketing Department, on 14-15 January.


This enriching and inspiring workshop offered a unique opportunity to engage with a leading scholar and journal editor in the field of marketing. It marked a significant milestone for our researchers, giving them direct access to expert insights and personalized feedback on their work.


Through discussions with Professor Viglia, participants refined their papers for submission to high-impact journals, gained a deeper understanding of the publication process, and explored innovative research methodologies. The event encouraged collaboration, sparked dialogue on advancing marketing research, and offered invaluable guidance on achieving academic excellence.

Research Workshop - Marketing

11 March 2025

Professor Dragos Cristea from the University "Dunărea de Jos," Romania, was the distinguished guest speaker at the workshop on “Applied Machine Learning in Marketing with Exploratory,” organized by Dr. Wissal Ben Arfi, Head of the Marketing Department, on 11 March. 

During this insightful session, Professor Cristea explored the key methodological challenges shaping the future of marketing analytics. He demonstrated how machine learning can transform the field, offering powerful applications in customer segmentation, churn prediction, and sales forecasting - equipping marketers with data-driven strategies for real-world impact.

Paris School of Business and the University of Naples Parthenope are co-organizing the 3rd International Conference on Digital Transformation & Society (DTS 2025), to be held on 22-23 May 2025 at Paris School of Business in Paris, France. 


DTS has established itself as a leading international conference, bringing together researchers, doctoral candidates, industry experts, and professionals from around the world. 3rd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE 

ICCEM 2025

15-16 May 2025

The 3rd edition of the International Conference on Customer Experience and Marketing (ICCEM 2025) will take place on 15-16 May 2025 in Bucharest, Romania, alongside the 6th edition of the International Management Conference (CIM 2025).


Launched by Paris School of Business in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Universitatea Dunărea de Jos din Galați (Romania) and the Research Laboratory on New Management Practices at Cadi Ayyad University (Morocco), ICCEM has quickly become a key platform for scholars and practitioners in the fields of marketing and customer experience. 


This year, the conferences hosted by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Universitatea Dunărea de Jos din Galați bring together an international community of researchers and industry professionals. 


Centered around the theme “Advancing Marketing and Management Frontiers: Integrating Innovation and Cross-Disciplinary Technologies for Future Growth”,  the two conferences will explore the transformative role of emerging technologies in reshaping marketing strategies, management practices, and the broader business landscape.

"Metaverse is dead", The Conversation France

Dr. Charles Perez, Professor of Management at PSB, has published two new articles on the topic of his latest book, “Le metaverse est mort / Metaverse is dead”.


 Le métavers est-il mort ?, The Conversation France

Le métavers est-il mort ? Les promesses d'une technologie en transformation, Journal du Net


Both articles explore the current state of the metaverse, highlighting challenges such as financial setbacks and waning public interest. However, they also emphasize ongoing innovations and practical applications, suggesting that the metaverse is undergoing a transformation rather than facing obsolescence.


Dr. Charles Perez actively popularizes the metaverse on his YouTube channel, sharing insights from his research, clarifying key issues, and showcasing the latest innovations in immersive technology.

Dr. Nessrine Omrani, Head of the Management and Strategy Department, has written a chapter titled "Tremblement de Tech à Hollywood: Artistes Artificiels" ("Tech Tremor in Hollywood: Artificial Artists") in the book Géopolitique des crises économiques: Mondes et merveilles, edited by Vanessa Casadella and Dimitri Uzunidis (Éditions Le Manuscrit). 


The chapter analyzes the concerns of Hollywood stakeholders regarding the rise of new distribution channels for audiovisual content, the emergence of new business models, and the arrival of a new generation of consumers.  

"Combining Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development: Sustainable Development Goals"

Dr. Meriam Razgallah, Professor in Management, has written a chapter entitled "Combiner l'entrepreneuriat social et le développement durable : des objectifs de développement durable" ("Combining Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development: Sustainable Development Goals") in the book Géopolitique des crises économiques : Mondes et merveilles, edited by Vanessa Casadella and Dimitri Uzunidis (Éditions Le Manuscrit).

In this chapter, she explores the strategic role of social enterprises in addressing major contemporary challenges. Drawing on concrete examples, Professor Razgallah highlights how these hybrid actors are developing innovative solutions to combat poverty, inequality, and climate change - while aligning their efforts with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

DBA PROGRAM 

6th DBA Workshop

15-17 January 2025

The 6th DBA Workshop brought together 22 second- and third-year DBA candidates, on 15-17 January, to present and discuss the preliminary findings of their research across a broad spectrum of innovative topics. The event provided a valuable platform for academic exchange, encouraging constructive dialogue between scholars and professionals, and reflecting the diverse research landscape at PSB. 


PSB faculty members, who have been closely supervising the doctoral work, were actively involved throughout the workshop. DBA students gained valuable insights from the rigorous feedback and peer discussions, which contributed meaningfully to the further development and refinement of their research projects.

DBA student contribute to the global 

academic community

Melisa Galasso, our dedicated PSB DBA student, recently attended the January 2025 Auditing Section Doctoral Consortium in North Carolina, an esteemed event sponsored by the American Accounting Association.


Guided by the expertise of Dr. Hatem RJIBA (Professor of Finance at PSB, Head of Track) and Dr. Nathalie BITBOL-SABA (Professor of Finance at PSB, Supervisor), Melisa is making remarkable progress in auditing research. Her thesis, "The impact of preparation of financial statements and anchoring bias on private company audit risk assessment in the United States", holds strong potential for publication in high-ranking accounting and auditing journals. The Consortium offers a valuable platform for doctoral students to engage with leading researchers, journal editors, and fellow scholars, fostering innovative discussions and advancing auditing research.
