Welcome to the Winter edition of the PSB Research Lab Newsletter.


This new issue once again illustrates the exceptional vitality, diversity, and impact of research at Paris School of Business. Over the past months, our faculty members have continued to combine academic rigor with strong societal engagement, producing work that resonates well beyond the academic community. 


This edition highlights a particularly rich research agenda: landmark publications in top‑tier journals, ambitious European research collaborations, influential contributions to public debate through The Conversation and leading media outlets, as well as active participation in major international conferences. Together, these achievements reflect PSB’s growing visibility and its firm positioning within international research networks. 


I am especially proud to see our scholars addressing some of today’s most pressing challenges — from artificial intelligence and decarbonization to healthcare, social innovation, and geopolitical risks — while maintaining the highest standards of scientific excellence. The recognition received by several of our colleagues, whether through prestigious journal publications, academic distinctions, or invitations to contribute to policy and media discussions, is a strong testament to the relevance and impact of their work.


This issue also showcases the strength of our collective research ecosystem: interdisciplinary collaboration, engagement with practitioners, and the continuous integration of research into teaching and knowledge dissemination. These dynamics are central to our vision of research as a driver of both academic advancement and societal value. 


I would like to warmly congratulate all our faculty members for their dedication and achievements, and to thank the Research Office team for their continued support.

LES MATINALES

A New Frontier in the Patient Experience

19 March 2026 

The 19 March edition of Les Matinales de la Recherche series focused on the work carried out by the Living Health Chair, in partnership with the Institut Rafaël – Santé Intégrative and The Conversation France. The session explored how research in marketing can help decode the key emotional moments that shape the patient experience. The discussions also highlighted practical ways of rethinking current practices, encouraging a more human‑centered and emotionally aware approach, enriched both by the expertise of healthcare professionals and by the powerful testimony of a patient.

Why AI Still Fails in Companies 

(and It’s Not an Algorithm Problem)

Dr. Olivier Mamavi, Professor of Management at PSB, recently moderated a round-table discussion dedicated to PSB partner companies. 


Featuring insights from Philippe Le Maguresse (Oceans & AstroLab) and Philippe Jean‑Baptiste (Top and Win Consulting), the session explored how AI can drive value creation within organizations, highlighting benefits that extend well beyond immediate return on investment.


The discussion identified key tensions that organizations must address if real value is to emerge, beyond the performance of AI models, important though that remains. 


Bringing together researchers and industry experts, this webinar‑style round-table series aims to keep our partners informed about today’s most pressing business and technological challenges, while offering rich insights from both academic research and professional practice. 


Dr. Mamavi further explores these issues in his recently published article in Management & Data Science:  "Why Does AI Perform Well Yet Create So Little Value in Companies?" (Pourquoi l’IA performe mais crée si peu de valeur en entreprise ?)

LECTURE SERIES 

Decoding and Understanding Economic Challenges

PSB welcomed Dr. Thomas Porcher, Professor of Economics at PSB, and Dominique Seux, columnist at Les Échos and commentator on LCI, for a special Beyond Management lecture held to mark the release of their new book, Les Débats de l’ Éco. 


The two authors shared key insights drawn from their well‑known weekly exchanges on France Inter, France’s most‑listened‑to radio station, where they break down major national and international economic issues. 


Their talk offered the PSB community a clear and engaging perspective on today’s most pressing economic debates. The event concluded with an exclusive book‑signing session, giving attendees a unique opportunity to meet the authors. 


The Beyond Management – Paris School of Business Lecture Series is a flagship event open to students, faculty, alumni, and partners of the school. It aims to foster reflection on major contemporary issues at the intersection of management, society, and culture.

EU‑FUNDED RESEARCH COLLABORATION

CORAL‑ITN Project  Marie Skłodowska‑Curie Innovative Training Network

The European Commission’s final report warmly acknowledges the quality, coherence, and impact of the work carried out over the past five years within the CORAL‑ITN project, marking a significant milestone for the consortium and its contributors. 


Launched under the Marie Skłodowska‑Curie Innovative Training Network (2021–2024), CORAL‑ITN has explored how collaborative workspaces (CWS); including coworking spaces, makerspaces, and innovation hubs;  shape socio‑economic development in rural and peripheral regions across the European Union. Over the course of the project, 15 early‑career researchers were trained to analyze the emergence, organization, and territorial impact of these new work environments.


Led by Dr. Ignasi Capdevila, Professor of Management and member of the newPIC Chair (New Practices for Innovation and Creativity), Paris School of Business has been a key contributor to the success of the CORAL‑ITN project. 


This recognition from the European Commission not only underlines the project’s excellence and impact, but also highlights PSB’s continued commitment to international and interdisciplinary research collaboration.

Why We Need to Give More Attention to Emotions, 

The Conversation France  

Dr. Judith Partouche Sebban, Professor of Marketing, and Holder of the Living Health Chair at PSB, has published an article in The Conversation France titled “Why We Need to Give More Attention to Emotions”. (Pourquoi il faut accorder plus de place aux émotions).


Her article explores how recognizing and integrating emotions can play a key role in enhancing the patient experience throughout the healthcare journey. To shed light on this emerging topic, she draws on marketing research examining the impact of emotions on consumer experiences.

Dr. Rahman Khan, Associate Professor of Management, and Dr. Qurat‑ul‑ain Talpur Associate Professor of Marketing at PSB, co-authored an article in The Conversation France with Dr Ghulam Murtaza titled "If you assign your employees a thankless task, you'll regret it" (Si vous donnez une tâche ingrate à vos salariés, vous allez le regretter) 


The article examines how the tasks assigned to employees shape their behavior, especially when those tasks are perceived as illegitimate — unreasonable, pointless or unrelated to their role. 


It draws on insights from their recently published research article, “The Dark Side of Illegitimate Tasks: How Revenge Motives and Moral Identity Shape Deviant Silence”, in Human Relations and co-authored with Dr. Ghulam Murtaza, Dr. Gary Schwarz and Dr. Alexander Newman.   

When AI Compromises Professional Identities, 

The Conversation France

Dr. Demba Ousmane DIOUF, Assistant Professor of Marketing at PSB co -authored an article in The Conversation France with Dr. Youssef Souak, Dr.Claudia-Roxana Rusu titled, "When AI Compromises Professional Identities" (Quand l’IA trahit les identités professionnelles).


The article explains that using AI in professional settings; such as writing CVs, emails, or LinkedIn profiles; quietly reshapes how individuals define and perceive their professional identity. It highlights a tension: while AI can help people appear more polished and competent, it can also create doubts about authenticity and make it harder for young professionals to understand who they truly are at work. 


The article warns that AI’s influence on identity construction is profound and should not happen without awareness.  

Decarbonization, Industrial Sovereignty, and Competitiveness: An Impossible Triple Play?,

Eurogroup Publication 

Dr. Raphaël Boroumand, Professor of Economics at PSB, is the lead author of the article "Decarbonization, Industrial Sovereignty, and Competitiveness: an Impossible Triple Play?" (Décarbonation, souveraineté industrielle et compétitivité : un triptyque impossible ?), published by Eurogroup Consulting. 


The article highlights Europe’s need to reconcile decarbonization with industrial sovereignty and competitiveness, stressing the importance of controlling energy costs, securing critical raw materials, and strengthening strategic value chains in support of a resilient and competitive transition.

Courrier Cadres
In an interview with Courrier Cadres, Dr. Patrice Cailleba, Professor of Management at PSB, together with Dr. Domitille Bonneton, highlights two key messages :


First, the rise of “micro‑resistances” reflects a profound shift in employee expectations: a search for meaning, greater well‑being, a desire for stronger participation, and increasingly diverse profiles. Second, managers need to respond to these changes with empathy, transparent communication, authentic leadership, clearly defined boundaries, and the ability to step back from conflict when necessary. 

The Economic Debates, Editions Plon

Dr. Thomas Porcher, Professor of Economics at PSB, has co‑authored with Dominique Seux, columnist at Les Échos and commentator on LCI, a book titled The Economic Debates (Les Débats de l’Éco),published by Plon. 


The book shares its title from their weekly economic debate program on France Inter, France’s most‑listened‑to radio station. 


Bringing together their exchanges on major economic issues, the book draws on the analyses and commentaries developed by these two prominent economists over the past two years. It offers readers clear and accessible insights into today’s key economic debates.

Dr. Olivier Mamavi, Professor of Management at PSB, has published a new book titled "Artificial Intelligence in Action: From Concept to Impact" (L’Intelligence Artificielle En Action: Du Cap à L’Impact) with Management & Datascience. Co‑edited with Dr. Romain Zerbib, this timely volume explores how AI is transforming organizations beyond the current hype. 


Drawing on rigorous research and real‑world applications, it examines the key challenges of scaling AI, from strategic management and data governance to MLOps, cybersecurity, and human factors. Featuring contributions from both academics and practitioners, the book offers a practical roadmap for moving from isolated pilots to meaningful, organization‑wide impact. 

The Emergence and Management 

of Cross-Organizational Innovation Communities: 

The Case of the Y.SPOT Lab Hubs,  

Practical Guide by Y Spot

The NewPIC Chair has published a new case study titled "The Emergence and Management of Cross-Organizational Innovation Communities: The Case of the Y.SPOT Lab Hubs", published in the Practical Guide by Y‑Spot. 


Authored by Valérie Merindol and David W. Versailles, both Professor of Management at PSB and co‑Directors of the NewPIC Chair, together with Nicolas Aubouin, Professor of Management and member of NewPIC Chair, the study examines the emergence and governance challenges of inter‑organizational innovation communities. 


Based in Grenoble and created by the CEA, Y.SPOT develops open‑innovation approaches focused on uses and applications, acting as a bridge between internal innovation teams and the broader ecosystem. With more than 20 years of experience in open innovation practices, Y.SPOT offers valuable insights into how such communities can effectively foster innovation.  

EXPERTS AND PRACTITIONERS’ NETWORKS

Annual Conference of the American Finance Association

Dr. Jiri Tresl, Professor of Finance at PSB, took part in the Annual Conference of the American Finance Association (AFA), held from 3 to 5 January 2026. The AFA is the leading global academic organization dedicated to advancing knowledge in financial economics and is widely regarded as the most prestigious forum for scholarly exchange in the field. 


Dr. Tresl presented his latest research paper, “Nature-Related Risks in Syndicated Lending,” during the session “Nature and Biodiversity Finance”. His contribution reflects the growing importance of sustainability and environmental considerations in financial decision-making. 


His participation underscores the quality and impact of PSB’s research and reaffirms the School’s commitment to academic excellence and thought leadership in finance.  
 
 

6th Annual Faith and Entrepreneurship Research Conference

Dr. Gunjan Saxena, Professor of Marketing at PSB, recently presented her research on faith & entrepreneurship at the 6th Annual Faith and Entrepreneurship Research Conference, held on 9 April, 2026 at Miami University’s Center for L.I.F.E (Leading the Integration of Faith & Entrepreneurship), organized by the Farmer School of Business. 


During her presentation, Dr. Saxena highlighted her innovative work on postcolonial feminist perspectives on spirituality in entrepreneurship. Her research explores how spiritual practices and beliefs shape entrepreneurial journeys, particularly for women navigating social, cultural, and structural constraints in postcolonial contexts. 


The L.I.F.E Center aims to generate knowledge that is both academically rigorous and practically relevant at the intersection of faith and entrepreneurship. Dr. Saxena’s contribution aligns closely with this mission, offering new insights into how spiritual identity and entrepreneurial practice interact in diverse global settings.  
 

ESSEC Experimental Economics Research Group  

Dr. Andrea Guido, Professor of Management at PSB, recently presented his ongoing research on climate change narratives as part of ESSEC’s Experimental and Behavioral Economics Seminar Series, organized by the Experimental Economics Research Group (Guilde des Expérimentalistes). 


This international project brings together experimental economics research teams from 11 countries, including Spain, China, Turkey, Vietnam, and the United States, to explore how people perceive the causes of climate change and how these mental models shape preferred policy responses.


Following the seminar, Dr. Guido also met with AST Bachelor students, sharing insights into the implications of his research for those keen to deepen their understanding of climate change issues.  
 

Symposium on Entrepreneurship and Technology at Boston University Metropolian College and the CERFIM Research Seminar at ESLSCA Business School Paris

Dr. Meriam Razgallah Associate Professor of Management at PSB, recently presented her study “Do innovative sustainability teaching practices spark students’ social entrepreneurial intention?”, co‑authored with Dr.Chiraz Aouina-Mejri, Associate Professor of Marketing at PSB, and Dr. Sufia Mohand Amar at both the CERFIM Research Seminar at ESLSCA Business School Paris, held on 20 February 2026, and the Symposium on Entrepreneurship and Technology at Boston University Metropolian College, held on 20-21 March 2026. 


Their findings highlight how innovative approaches to sustainability teaching can sharpen students’ awareness and spark their motivation to engage in social entrepreneurship. 


This academic year, Dr. Razgallah also received the PSB Award for Pedagogical Innovation for her project Junior Consulting Impact Sustainability — a clear recognition of her commitment to cultivating responsible, impact‑driven future managers. 


These achievements underscore her dedication to shaping purposeful leaders and demonstrate the tangible societal impact of academic research.  
 

French National Assembly

Dr. Raphaël Boroumand, Professor of Economics at PSB, was recently invited to speak at the French National Assembly, where he presented his latest academic work on decarbonization, industrial policy, and competitiveness in Europe.


During the hearing, he highlighted the strategic importance of accelerating the energy transition while ensuring that European industries remain resilient and innovative. His contribution formed part of the wider national debate on how France and the European Union can address the twin challenges of sustainability and economic performance.  
 
 

Eurogroup Consulting Conference 

Dr. Raphaël Boroumand, Professor of Economics at PSB, recently spoke at the conference Energy Sovereignty at the Heart of the Presidential Elections  (La souveraineté énergétique au cœur des élections présidentielles), organized by Eurogroup Consulting. 


During his presentation, Dr. Boroumand provided valuable insights into the links between decarbonization, industrial sovereignty, and competitiveness. He also highlighted the impact of geopolitical crises on purchasing power and competitiveness, with particular reference to the current war in Iran.

Dr. Thomas Porcher 

Dr. Thomas Porcher, Professor of Economics at PSB, has recently appeared on several television programs to share his analysis of key national and international issues. 


On Arte – Club, he discussed debates on the national budget at the French National Assembly, media regulation measures in France, and European Union initiatives concerning Russian gas imports.

 

On France TV – C dans l’air, L’invité, he examined the ongoing oil crisis and its impact on gasoline prices.
 

Dr. Raphaël Boroumand

Dr. Raphaël Boroumand, Professor of Economics at PSB, recently gave an interview to Journal Spécial des Sociétés, in which he discussed the economic consequences of the war in Iran. 


He also appeared live on France Info TV to analyze the economic impact of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.  
 

Dr. Hassan Obeid

Dr Hassan Obeid,Professor of Economics at PSB, has been interviewed by several international television Channels on the global economic outlook and the conflict in the Middle East. 

  

On TV Al Jadeed he discussed possible scenarios for the depreciation and appreciation of the US dollar in 2026. 


On Al Araby TV he examined the rise in corporate failures in 2025 and shared perspectives on the outlook for 2026, focusing on the economic, financial, and structural factors shaping the year ahead. 


On Asharq TV  he discussed maritime risks and the energy crisis, highlighting the impact of the conflict in the Middle East on oil and gas markets.


He also commented on trade and geopolitical developments, including a possible free trade agreement between Britain and the Gulf countries: and on the renewed rapprochement between Europe and Britain, and the opportunities this may create for trade and energy  .

The Dark Side of Illegitimate Tasks: How Revenge Motives and Moral Identity Shape Deviant Silence, Human Relations 

Dr. Rahman Khan, Associate Professor of Management, and Dr. Qurat‑ul‑ain Talpur Associate Professor of Marketing at PSB, have co-authored a new article with Dr. Ghulam Murtaza, Dr. Gary Schwarz, and Dr. Alexander Newman in Human Relations, one of the world’s most prestigious journals in the field (FT50; ABS 4).


Their study, titled “The Dark Side of Illegitimate Tasks: How Revenge Motives and Moral Identity Shape Deviant Silence,” sheds light on the hidden consequences of assigning tasks that employees perceive as unreasonable or outside the scope of their role. The authors show that such illegitimate tasks can trigger deviant silence — when employees deliberately withhold information in ways that may harm the organization — driven in part by feelings of revenge. Importantly, the research also shows that moral identity acts as a protective factor, weakening the link between unfair task assignments and retaliatory silence by providing an internal self‑regulatory buffer.


This publication in an FT 50 journal marks an important milestone for PSB, representing the School’s 7th ABS 4-rated article of 2025 and further strengthening its growing research reputation. It showcases the rigor, impact, and excellence of our faculty’s scholarly work and reflects the vibrant, interdisciplinary research culture that continues to thrive at PSB.

Most read article in IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management

The article "Drivers of Digital Transformation in SMEs", published in IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management (ABS 3) and co‑authored by Dr. Nessrine Omrani Full Professor and Dr. Nada Rejeb, Asoociate Professor of Management at PSB, together with Dr. Adnane Maalaoui, Dr. Marina Dabić, and Dr. Sascha Kraus, has now surpassed 30,000 reads. It continues to rank as the journal’s most-read article over an extended period. 


This milestone highlights the strong commitment of our researchers to producing internationally recognized, high‑impact research.  
 

Top 10% Authors RePEc (Research Papers in Economics)

Dr. Whelsy Boungou, Assistant Professor of Finance at PSB, has been ranked among the Top 10% Authors (Last 10 Years Publications) by RePEc in its January 2026 release. This distinction highlights Dr. Boungou’s significant research productivity and influence in the field of Economics and Finance, as well as his sustained commitment to advancing knowledge in his discipline. 


RePEc (Research Papers in Economics) is one of the world’s largest collaborative initiatives dedicated to broadening the open dissemination of economic research. It aggregates bibliographic data from more than 2,000 contributing archives, encompassing major academic publishers, universities, research institutes, and leading scientific outlets.   
 

Qualification - PhD Degree, Dr.Maya Jalloul

We congratulate Dr. Maya Jalloul, Assistant Professor of Management at PSB, on the successful defense of her PhD in Information Systems and Operations Management. Her doctoral research was carried out at HEC Paris.


This important milestone crowns years of dedicated effort and rigorous scholarship, and brings valuable new insights to the field of management.  
 

DBA NEWS
 

A New Article

A new research contribution by Dr Ignasi Capdevila, Professor of Management at PSB and member of the newPIC Chair, together with former DBA student Brendan Schütte, has been published in the journal Group & Organization Management (ABS 3). Their article, titled “Mediation as Moral Reconstruction: Internal Reframing in Workplace Conflict”, offers important insight into how individuals transform their perceptions of self and others during workplace mediation.


Drawing on extensive qualitative data from mediation cases and participant interviews, the study identifies how narrative surprises and emotional dissonance can prompt a process of internal reframing. Central to this transformation is the development of a “virtue stance,” reflecting a shift in moral orientation that supports deeper conflict resolution. The findings show that transformation is driven not only by external mediation processes, but also by internal negotiation and reflection. 


This publication highlights the value of faculty–DBA collaboration and its role in generating impactful, practice‑relevant academic research.
