In this issue, we are excited to showcase the remarkable achievements of our faculty members. Highlights include scholarly publications and editorial appointments in prestigious peer-reviewed journals, the release of new books, the publication of insightful articles in The Conversation, notable media appearances, active participation in conferences and the organization of key events on our campus.


We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to two faculty members who have recently received their HDR. Additionally, we are proud to announce that one of our faculty members has been recognized among the World’s Top 2% most-cited scientists, according to the latest Stanford University ranking.These achievements reflect the innovative expertise and unwavering dedication of our faculty.

HDR Qualifications 

Dr. Nada REJEB and Dr. Federica SALVADE

The PSB Research Lab congratulates Dr. Nada REJEB and Dr. Federica SALVADE on earning their HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches or Research Supervision Certification). This achievement represents a significant advancement in their academic careers. 


Achieving this qualification, following years of dedicated and rigorous effort, enables them to assume greater leadership roles in supervising doctoral candidates and leading research projects, thereby significantly enhancing the impact of their scholarly contributions. 

Dr. Khaled GUESMI 

Top 2% of Research Scientists 

Dr. Khaled GUESMI, Professor of Finance and Director of the Center for Research on Energy and Climate Change (CRECC Research Center) at Paris School of Business, has been featured in Stanford University and Elsevier’s 2024 list of the Top 2% of Research Scientists globally.

Stanford’s Top 2% Scientists list recognizes researchers who are among the most highly cited in their fields. This emerging and prestigious ranking evaluates citation impact across a broad range of scientific disciplines using data from the Scopus database, ensuring a robust assessment of scholarly influence.

Dr. Federica SALVADE 

Article in Management Science 

Dr. Federica SALVADE, Professor of Finance at Paris School of Business, and her co-authors have published an article titled “Credit Ratings and the Hold-up Problem in the Loan Market.” in Management Science. Ranked as an ABS 4-star journal, Management Science is one of the 50 journals included in the Financial Times Research Ranking, making it a leading publication in the field. “This paper studies whether credit ratings can alleviate the hold-up problem in the loan market” offering new insights into this critical aspect of financial research.

Dr. Wissal BEN ARFI 

Article in Social Science and Medicine

Dr. Wissal BEN ARFI and her co-authors have published an article in the renowned journal Social Science & Medicine (ranked ABS 4-star) titled "The Role of Contact-Tracing Mobile Apps in Pandemic Prevention: A Multidisciplinary Perspective on Health Beliefs, Social, and Technological Factors"This article provides valuable guidance for policymakers and public health officials in their decision-making in the management of future epidemics.





Dr. Hatem RJIBA and Dr. Samir SAADI

Article in Journal of Corporate Finance



Dr. Hatem RJIBA, Professor of Finance, and Dr. Samir SAADI Professor of Finance, and Vice Dean for Research at Paris School of Business published, have co-authored a new paper titled "Does litigation risk matter for the choice between bank debt and public debt?” in the prestigious Journal of Corporate Finance (ranked ABS 4-star).


Their paper explores how liberal judicial ideology influences firms' choices between bank debt and public debt, revealing that litigation risk reduces reliance on bank debt in favor of less restrictive financing alternatives. 

Dr. Francesco PAOLO APPIO JPIM Editorial Review Board  

Dr. Francesco Paolo APPIO, PhD, HDR, and Full Professor of Management at Paris School of Business, has been appointed to the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Product Innovation Management - JPIM. Ranked as ABS 4, JPIM is a leading peer-reviewed research journal dedicated to publishing groundbreaking research on the development and management of innovation within organizations.  



Dr. Nessrine OMRANI and Dr. Nada REJEB

IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management most popular publication

Dr. Nessrine OMRANI, Head of the Management & Strategy Department, and Nada REJEB, Associate Professor of Manegement at PSB, have co-authored the article titled "Drivers of Digital Transformation in SMEs", which is currently the most popular publication in the journal IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management (ranked ABS 3).


The article reviews empirical research on the adoption of digital technologies, exploring the key drivers influencing this process in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). It identifies critical factors to guide practitioners in adopting digital technologies effectively, emphasizing the need for firms to assess their readiness before making significant investments.

Dr. Mickael MELKI 

Paper in NBER Working Paper Series

The paper titled “Cultural Remittances and Modern Fertility,” co-authored by Mickael MELKI, Associate Professor of Economics at PSB, was presented in October at Harvard University during a conference organized by Nobel Prize Laureate in Economics, Claudia GOLDIN. The paper has also been published in the prestigious NBER Working Paper Series.


Dr. Mickael MELKI began this research project during his research stay at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The project has received significant recognition, earning him the 2024-2025 prize from the Fondation des Sciences Sociales, which highlights the relevance and impact of his work.

Corporate Open Innovation Labs : What are the keys to driving open innovation ?

The 4th PSB Research Lab Breakfast Meeting hosted a lively discussion on best practices for promoting open innovation in the iLabs of major corporations.


We were delighted to welcome Jean-Louis Compeau, Head of SEBLab, Innovation Division at Groupe SEB, and Christophe Lienard, Central Director of Innovation at Bouygues. Both pioneers in implementing open labs within large organizations, they openly shared their diverse experiences, methodologies, and the challenges they encounter in this dynamic field.


Dr. Valérie MÉRINDOL and Dr. David W. VERSAILLES, Professors in the Management and Strategy Department at PSB and co-Chairs of the NewPIC Chair, added unique depth to the discussions with valuable academic insights, offering deeper insights into the complexities of open innovation. 

Green Finance : How Can Companies Support Sustanability and Climate Action ?

10 October 2024

The 3rd PSB Research Lab Breakfast Meeting, organized in collaboration with Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, featured an engaging debate on the challenges and opportunities of sustainable finance. Moderated by Marc-Arthur DIAYE, Professor at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, the session brought together a panel of experts:

  • Himadou ALOU, Head of Public Affairs and Regulation, Sequantis LT Consulting.
  • Khaled GUESMI, Researcher and Director of the Energy and Climate Change Research Center, PSB.
  • Antoine MANDEL, Co-founder of CLIMAFIN and Professor at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.
  • Diane MENVILE, Director of Treasury and Capital Markets, AFD.

The panelists explored critical topics such as the sustainability challenges faced by companies, the role of incentive mechanisms and regulations, and specific issues related to Europe and emerging markets.

DIGITAL ADVERTISING AND ITS CARBON FOOTPRINT : WHAT SOLUTIONS ? 

 6 February 2025

The next Breakfast Meeting will take place on 6 February 2025 at the PSB Campus. The discussion will center on: “ La publicité digitale face aux enjeux de son empreinte carbone : quelles solutions? / Digital advertising and its carbon footprint: what solutions?” 


A panel of experts will explore the challenges and potential solutions to address the environmental impact of digital advertising. As with previous editions, this event will bring together researchers and professionals to share their unique perspectives and valuable insights.

The 3rd edition of the Digital Transformation Society will take place on 22-23 May 2025, at Paris School of Business. Organized in collaboration with the University of Naples Parthenope, the theme for DTS 2025 is “Human-Machine Synergy and the Digital Future: Exploring Collaboration and Competition”.


This Conference aims to provide international scholars from the field of Management the occasion to explore this key topic together. This publication examines the reasons behind the fading enthusiasm for what was once considered a groundbreaking technology. Dr. Olivier MAMAVI, Professor of Management at PSB, and Romain ZERBIB, Professor of Management at ICD Business School, have co-edited a new volume of articles in the Management & Datascience series, focusing on AI and digital transformation. The book, titled “Défis et perspectives de l’IA en entreprise: productivité, transformation, regulation / Challenges and Prospects of AI in Business: Productivity, Transformation, Regulation” features contributions from both academic and industry experts. It provides a comprehensive, multi-dimensional analysis of how AI is reshaping productivity, driving transformation, and influencing regulation within organizations.

The open lab Y.SPOT 

Strategic perspectives for a 

deeptech-oriented open innovation lab

The NewPIC Chair has released a new White Paper, commissioned by the CEA's Technological Research Division, examining the Y.SPOT open innovation center. Located in Grenoble and established by the CEA, Y.SPOT's mission is to develop open innovation approaches centered on uses and applications, acting as a bridge between internal innovation communities and the broader ecosystem.

With over 20 years of open innovation practice, the Y.SPOT offers valuable insights into fostering innovation. This White Paper aims to stimulate collective reflection on the operations of innovation communities while enhancing Y.SPOT’s relevance and leadership in the field of Open Innovation, preparing for and inventing the future.

Authored by Valérie MERINDOL and David W. VERSAILLES, co-Directors of the NewPIC Chair, along with Nicolas AUBOUIN, Professor of Management at PSB, the report offers comparative analyses. It outlines strategies for effectively integrating deep tech research, user-centered innovation, and societal challenges.

"Becoming Entrepreuneurial Universities is Possible...?"

The Conversation France 

Valerie MERINDOL and David W. VERSAILLES, Professors of Management at PSB and co-directors of the newPIC Chair, have published a new article in The Conversation France, titled “Devenir des universités entrepreneuriales c'est possible...” (“Becoming Entrepreneurial Universities Is Possible...”). The article examines the crucial role of universities in developing local innovation ecosystems and outlines key success factors for French initiatives aimed at strengthening this third mission of universities: contributing to societal and economic development.


Drawing on a study funded by Bpifrance's Deeptech department, the article calls for a transformative shift in academic strategies to enable universities to play a central role in regional innovation ecosystems.


The study, published in 2021, provides a comparative analysis of innovation ecosystems led by various universities. It builds on research conducted by the newPIC Chair on innovation platforms and ecosystems for Bpifrance Le Lab since 2017. It has also served as a reference for preparing Bpifrance's role in public policy on University Innovation Clusters.

"Do we need a European DARPA to cope with technological challenges in Europe ?"

In their recent article in The Conversation France, Valerie MÉRINDOL and David W. VERSAILLES, Professors of Management at PSB and co-directors of the NewPIC Chair, explore the pressing question of whether Europe needs an agency akin to the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to address Europe's technological needs. Their article examines the core principles of DARPA, widely regarded as a model for driving technological innovation, and frequently cited by European policymakers.

"How to choose the right Location for a Company ?"

The Conversation France 

In an article published in The Conversation France, Dr. Gisele DE CAMPOS RIBEIRO, Professor of Marketing at PSB and Dr. Delphine MINCHEMMA, Professor of Strategic Management at EM Normandie, investigate the importance individuals place on their company's location. They explore whether there are differences among Europeans on this issue.

Titled “Comment choisir la bonne localisation d’une entreprise?” (“How to Choose the Right Location for a Company?”), the article draws on a specific definition of workplace location developed by the researchers in a recent article published in the Harvard Business Review.

Dr. Daniel MAAR

"A Psychological Syndrome and Marketing Tool"

The Conversation France 

In an article published in The Conversation France, Daniel MAAR, Associate Professor at PSB, and Dr. Hajer KEFI, Professor at Pôle Léonard de Vinci, explore how marketers leverage FOMO (“Fear of Missing Out”) on social media to influence user behavior. Titled “Le Fomo : Syndrome psychologique et outil marketing” (“FOMO: A Psychological Syndrome and Marketing Tool”), the study investigates how this psychological phenomenon affects consumer engagement.

Conducted among brand followers on Instagram, the findings reveal a dual impact of FOMO: while it can enhance consumers' perceptions of a brand, it can also lead to brand account fatigue. This insightful study sheds light on the complex interplay between social media marketing and consumer behavior.

The Digital Marketing Forum, 5 December 2024


At the 3rd edition of the Digital Marketing Forum, Christelle AUBERT-HASSOUNI, Assistant Professor of Marketing at PSB, participated in a round table discussion titled “Cookieless: An Opportunity for European Sovereignty?”. The debate focused on the competition and sovereignty issues arising from the elimination of third-party cookies.


The Digital Marketing Forum brings together key players in the digital marketing industry. This year's theme, “Marketing: Humanity, Intelligence, and Ethics,” prompted experts to address critical questions: How can we balance economic and technological imperatives with consumers' ethical aspirations? How can we envision innovative and responsible strategies for the future? 


Christelle AUBERT-HASSOUNI will also be a discussant at the PSB Research Lab’s next Breakfast Meeting on 6 February 2025. She will join entrepreneurs and professional experts to discuss “La publicité digitale face aux enjeux de son empreinte carbone: quelles solutions? / Digital Advertising and Its Carbon Footprint: What Solutions?” (see the article above).

International Days for Hospital and Healthcare Quality,

26-27 November 2024

Dr. Judith PARTOUCHE-SEBBAN, Professor of Marketing and Director of the Living Health Chair at PSB, recently participated in a roundtable discussion titled “Can Patient Experience Be a Compass for Care Relevance?” (“L’expérience patient peut-elle constituer une boussole de la pertinence des soins?”).Organized by the French Patient Experience Institute, the Round Table was part of the 2024 Journées Internationales de la Qualité Hospitalière et en Santé (JIQHS).

This event brings together leading healthcare stakeholders to reflect on how patient experiences can inform and improve the quality and relevance of healthcare delivery. During the discussion, Professor PARTOUCHE-SEBBAN shared her research findings on the importance of patient experience in the care pathway. The discussion covered several key topics:

  • The importance of defining and collecting patient experiences.
  • Imagining innovative therapeutic strategies informed by patient experiences.
  • Prioritizing patient experiences to ensure treatments are adapted to their psychological and emotional needs. 

Chronic Diseases and Integrative Health-French National Assembly,

5 November 2024

Dr. Judith PARTOUCHE-SEBBAN, Professor of Marketing and Director of the Living Health Chair at PSB, spoke at the closing session of a conference series organized at the French National Assembly. 

During the roundtable discussion on “Integrative Health as an Innovation in Managing Chronic Diseases” (“La santé intégrative comme innovation dans la prise en charge des maladies chroniques”), she presented her research findings on patient experience and integrative health, conducted in collaboration with Institut Raphaël. This series of conferences is led by French Deputy Sandrine JOSSO and Alain TOLEDANO, Director of Institut Raphaël and Chair in Integrative Health at the CNAM. 

Civil-Military innovation : What Are the mutual Contributions ? IRIS, 

12 November 2024

Dr. Valérie MÉRINDOL, Professor of Management at PSB and co-Chair of the NewPIC Chair, recently spoke at a conference organized by IRIS (Institut de Relations Internationales et Stratégiques) in partnership with the armed forces mutual Unéo on 12 November 2024. The event focused on the role of innovation as a critical interface between military and civilian sectors.


Given the increasing need for coordination with the civilian sector to accelerate innovation and maintain the technological superiority of the armed forces, the conference addressed several key questions: How are these synergies deployed in practice? What efforts are being made to capture and support civilian innovation? What technological breakthroughs have already resulted from these collaborative efforts ?

La Rochelle,

28-29 August 2024

Dr. Raphaël BOROUMAND, Professor of Economics and climate change specialist, participated in a roundtable discussion titled “Bilan actuel du changement climatique / The Current State of Climate Change” at the 12th edition of Rencontres Energie-Climat, organized by the think tank e5t in La Rochelle.

This annual conference is a key event for energy and climate issues, bringing together major players in the energy transition and climate policy. Experts, public policymakers, and business leaders convene to discuss strategies for achieving a balance between economic growth with climate action.

Dr. BOROUMAND has also contributed to several round table discussions organised by expert groups and corporate conferences on COP 28.

"ResourceRecombination Perspective on Open Eco-Innovation: Open Innovation Type, Strategic Orientation, and Green Innovation" Business Strategy and the Environment, KIM, Y., Roh, T., & BOROUMAND, R. H. (2024). 

This study aims to investigate the missing links in open eco-innovation. Drawing upon the knowledge-based view and dynamic capability perspective, this study provides theoretical grounds for a firm's breadth and depth of an open eco-innovation strategy.


 "Perceptions of South African Accountants on Factors with a Role in the Adoption of Artificial Intelligence in Financial Reporting" Journal of Financial Risk Management, MOLOI, T., & OBEID, H. (2024). 

The objective of this study was to conduct a detailed South African study that sought to explore and analyse the views of South African accountants regarding the factors that affect the adoption of AI in financial reporting. In other words, this study aimed to understand what accountants in South Africa think about the use of AI in their field, especially concerning its integration into financial reporting practices.
